Nanotechnology is one of the most significant advances of technology in the creation of small components without leaving aside the level of performance it could deliver and the functions it could fulfil, nanotechnology has helped to create components which are smaller and adaptable to designs much more favourable for smartphones; smaller components and smartphones wouldn’t matter or be so great if not for the incredible performance delivered by a component of less size. 1 nanometer transistor
A nanometer is equal to the billionth of a meter; this is what the new transistor developed by researchers from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in United States measures. The manufacture of this transistor has taken physics beyond its limits in the development of current microchips, according to these researchers the materials that they used to make this transistor of a nanometer a reality were the nanotubes of carbon and disulphide of molybdenum, a kind of curious material not used by many people to cover the conventional layer of silicon. Apart from exceeding the limits of physics, this prototype will be an excellent base to create big patents in a small and comfortable way.
In the microelectronics for the creation of components there are some known laws of miniaturization that the smaller an electric component is, the better it will be to avoid higher consumption in a reduced size, it stands out to say that with such small components without high consumption the creation of processors with better performance will be easier both in small and big prototypes. For some time now in technology we have been able to reduce components so that we don’t have to manufacture big prototypes, nevertheless the reduction of components hasn’t been as excellent as the transistor created from a nanometer in the United States.
The smallest in the world
We’ve noticed that there have been reductions in many transistors and electronic components, the smallest next to this transistor are the commons that measure 14 nanometers, also currently being used by the Intel enterprise are components that measure between 22 to 32 nanometers, something similar occurs in Apple devices with the use of components that measure between 14 to 16 nanometers. Many companies have spent money and time to create very small components that fulfill their functions, but now in the United States the smallest component in the world has been created and this will be of great benefit to many companies for building their patents.
As technology advances exponentially day by day, many companies set their objectives before someone is able to achieve it. The technological leaps are very much recognized because they’re goals proposed by a group of companies in the market, before the creation of this transistor of 1 nanometer there was a known goal of 10 nanometers for 2017 and for 2020, to surpass that of 5 nanometers, but due to the fact that there now exists a component of 1 nanometer the intentions of other companies to work based on this prototype is yet to be known.
For now it’s just a demonstration.
As IBM, NEC, Toshiba, and other companies also made this sort of demonstrations to show to the world what is possible, even in 2002 and 2003 IBM and the NEC enterprise were the companies that showed us a scientific demonstration of transistors of 5 and 6 nanometers, imagine in 2002 and 2003 a technology so small was something really futuristic for that era, and the current technology for that year was considered as the transistor and the smallest component in the world at that moment, but now the transistor from Lawrence Barkeley National Laboratory has taken its place, 5 times smaller than that of IBM and NEC in the year 2002.
Previously materials such as the graphene were not used, the disulphide of molybdenum and other components were already reduced, this goes to say that the scientific demonstration of IBM was a big historical advancement for technology, so much that since that year objectives for 2016 were already being put into motion , the plan wasn’t known but they had proposed the goal for 2016. The transistor of 1 nanometer is still in scientific demonstration mode, other patents are allowed to use it but they are not given full assurance that it is going to work according to some demands.
